HYDRANGEA MURAL

Hydrangea Kitchen has a special place in my heart, being asked to do this job was a full-circle moment. Along with a fun and engaging process with the client, it was so rewarding to add to a place that gave me so much, like my first job. Megan, the owner of Hydrangea Kitchen, contacted me because of my stylistic choices and asked for a mural to fit her restaurant. I began by drawing on the canvas with chalk transferring my drawing to the proportions it needed to be on the canvas then, I began to paint using various sizes of medium brushes and black and green paint.
She already had a beautiful framed canvas my job was to fill it, after some process and time, a decision was made to draw hydrangeas, which was very fitting. Megan wanted something simplistic with a touch of color, for three days, I painted and created something Megan connected with and I was happy about.

Process

This project wasn’t a major learning experience for me; rather, it was one I genuinely enjoyed. I did learn one thing, though / I was reminded that chalk and paint don't mix, so I had to erase my stencil and then trust my gut to do what I had drawn. it wasn't the most peaceful thing to do, but I knew I could do it and not mess anything up with size or proportion.
Megan had a great time flipping through my journal to select the flower that suited her best, and I appreciated her honest feedback, as I aimed to embed a story behind each design. She was pleased that I completed the project in under 12 hours, and I was grateful for her kindness in allowing me to arrange the workspace to ensure I felt comfortable while painting. This thoughtful gesture significantly contributed to my efficiency and overall enjoyment of the process.

GROWTH is funny—positive, negative, backward, or forward. Whatever the case, it should be welcomed. Life has taught me many things, and Art has allowed me to remember, personify, and document my journey as a person and artist.
